COVID-19 Update: We’re Re-Opening the Catfé Lounge on an Appointment-Only Basis

In compliance with Governor Whitmer’s executive order on May 21st allowing retailers to host up to 10 visitors at a time, we’re re-opening the Catfé Lounge on an appointment-only basis.

To comply with the executive order and to maintain the safety of our visitors and staff, we’re shifting admission to an online appointment system and allowing only 6 attendees at any one time. We’re sharing details and FAQs about our new admission process and safety precautions below.

How Will Admission Work Now?

For a $10 donation, you can schedule a one-hour visit on our website. To prevent cash transactions and to minimize contact, payments will be required online to process an appointment. After signing up, visitors can choose to receive email and text reminders regarding their visit.

So Visit Times Are Limited Now?

To comply with the executive order, we have to limit the number of attendees at the Catfé at any one time. For every hourly slot, we’re allowing up to six visitors, though attendees are welcome to stay longer if the Catfé is not at capacity. Our hope is that this policy will not only help us to maintain a safe environment, but that visitors will also have a better, calmer, and more intimate experience with the kitties in our care.

To uphold our capacity limit, visitors are expected to leave if and when the six-person limit is reached. Extra time will not be granted if attendees are late to their scheduled visit and the Catfé reaches capacity.

What Safety Precautions Are You Taking?

Hand sanitizer is available throughout the Catfé and all visitors and volunteers must clean their hands upon entry and exit. Our staff will routinely sanitize common seating areas, touch-points, and the restroom with disinfectant wipes.

For the time being, all visitors will be required to wear masks. Any visitors or volunteers displaying signs of illness will not be permitted to enter the building.

Are Walk-In Visits Still Allowed?

Walk-in visits to the Catfé Lounge are still permitted but will be limited based on the six visitor capacity. We recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure you will not have to wait or come back at a later time.

Why Are You Re-Opening the Catfe?

The Catfé Lounge is the largest and most consistent source of revenue for the Ferndale Cat Shelter. It’s also a crucial hub for facilitating adoption for our organization. Without admission donations and adoptions at the cat cafe, maintaining our organization’s mission to rescue, care for, and adopt out cats is incredibly challenging.

We Hope to See You Soon!

We’re intending on re-opening the Catfé Lounge on an appointment basis starting on Monday, June 1st. Please schedule a visit on our website – our team and the kitties are looking forward to seeing you!
